Let me guess...You like to laugh.
I had a feeling. You've always been a silly goose who appreciates the lighter side of life. But traditional stand up has never been your cup of tea. And comedy clubs really aren't your thing. Don't fret, my friend.
Avoid the two drink minimums and the overpriced food with these alternative comedy spaces and shows.
Tattooed Mom
Wander upstairs and head to the back room of this famous South St. dive and you might find a comedy show waiting for you.
(Comedian Tiz Irie performs at Tattooed Momedy)
Tattooed Mom is home to all sorts of live comedy events. That includes sketch comedy, script readings, character showcases and more. Their flagship comedy show, Tattooed Momedy, has been running over a decade and features a mix of headliners from across the country and local talent. Tattooed Momedy is the last Tuesday of every month and is free!

Long Shot at Vox Populi
Comedians Liam Paris and Lea Devon are members of the artist collective Vox Populi. And once a month they present never-before seen experimental comedy shows, where artists are encouraged to really take risks. Every month is something different and every show is a brand new full length experiment. Check out even more odd comedy experiments at Vox during the Philly Fringe Festival this fall.

Philamoca
In addition to hosting live music and movie screenings, Philamoca is one of the best venues in the city for alternative comedy.
(Sketch group Incredible Dreamz presents their movie series House of Guns)
Philamoca is often where you can find acts that don't typically hit the traditional comedy club circuit. Touring comedy and novelty acts coming to Philamoca soon include Matt Barats, George Civeris, Sam Taggart and David Leibe Hart. Philamoca is also home to Philly staple Awful Wrestling and indie screenings of cult comedy favorites.

Sidequest Theater
Based out of the McGuffin Theatre in Center City, this theater space is home to regular live monthly role-playing games and improv shows. If you're a fan of the unscripted comedy you find on Dropout TV, this might be the spot for you!

Variety Pack Comedy
Variety Pack is home to "genre-bending, -blending, and -breaking comedy acts both brand new and tried-and-true."
(A cartoon by Sam Lanier being screened at Variety Pack Comedy)
Twice a year, this festival presents a mini fest of one-off shows from some of Philadelphia's favorite acts. The only rule is that they can't fit the mold of a traditional sketch, improv, or standup show. Variety Pack also put up all kinds of one off shows throughout the year.
