Whether fresh off the grill or a greasy roller, nothing really reminds you of summer quite like the snap of a hot dog. What? Other things remind you more of summer? That's fair. But you must admit, it's one of the few foods you can hold in one hand while chugging an entire beer. In fact, at my home it's expected.
In any case, here's a few great spots in Philly to indulge your cravings for those spicy weiners you love so much!
A. P. J. Texas Weiner
Right around the corner from Reading Terminal market, this little diner has existed in Philly for over 100 years, serving up classic Texas style dogs.
Johnny's Hots
Grab a sausage or dog at this old fashioned stand on Delaware Ave. If you're feeling really wild, order the hot dog/fish cake combo, an old school Philly staple that is exactly what it sounds like.
Juana Tamale
Founder Jen Zavala started selling tamales from a van outside Phillies games and quickly gained a loyal following. When they eventually opened up their own space, they added hotdogs to their menu. Grab a weiner for a dollar during every Phillies games (phillydognight.com) and grab their bacon wrapped Sonoran dogs every day of the week!
Lucky’s Last Chance
It's known now for its burgers, but Lucky's Last Chance started as primarily a hot dog spot. They've still got a huge collection of dogs on their menu, over a dozen varieties and rotating specials.
Ortlieb's
This live music venue and hot dog bar has a dozen different hot dogs on their menu, half of which are vegan! Check out their famous pickle dog and keep an eye out for happy hour and lunch specials.
